Noida Rain: The first heavy monsoon rain brought relief from the scorching heat, but the Noida Development Authority's inadequate preparations resulted in mud and waterlogging everywhere. The crumbling drainage system exposed the real face of "high-tech" Noida. Heavy rain on Tuesday and Wednesday resulted in 30 mm of water falling in just four hours, submerging the entire city, including posh sectors. Roads in Sectors 62, 104, 107, 108, 116, 122, 31, Film City, and several areas of Greater Noida West, turned into ponds.

Adding to people's woes, ride-hailing apps are charging exorbitant prices amid a flood-like situation in Uttar Pradesh's high-tech city.

No Impact Seen Of Drains Cleaning Efforts

Vehicles in low-lying areas were submerged up to halfway, bringing traffic to a complete standstill. Waterlogging around a transformer in Noida's Sector 116 has caused power outages for several hours.

Power supply has been disrupted in several other locations, and there are complaints of sewage from overflowing drains entering homes. Contrary to the Noida Authority's claims, the drainage system has proven to be a complete failure. All the claims of cleaning drains before the onset of rain turned out to be false.

Vehicles Stuck Mid-Road Amid Rain

Water entered the silencer of a vehicle passing through the Noida Mahamaya underpass. Similar scenes are being witnessed in other sectors of the renowned city. Thursday's heavy rains have brought Sector 16, the Film City area, to a standstill. Over 151.5 mm of rain in the past 24 hours has exacerbated residents' hardships. As usual, waterlogging on roads in Baraula Village, Khoda, Labour Chowk, Sector 38A, Sector 62, and Sector 63 in Noida added to the public's problems.

Office-goers faced inconvenience due to the waterlogging. Roads were submerged in water at many locations, slowing traffic and delaying people's arrivals. The road leading to Sector 18 was completely submerged due to heavy waterlogging, leaving two-wheelers and four-wheelers stranded midway. The 24-meter road outside Central Park in Sector 108 was also flooded.

Meanwhile, 48 hours of continuous rain submerged the roads outside Cleo County Society in Sector 121. While this change in weather is bringing relief to residents, the authorities' inadequate action plans have left locals helpless.

What Will Happen In The Coming Days?

Not only this, the upper portion of the I-Fort building in Sector 62, under the Sector-58 police station area of Noida, considered a hi-tech city, collapsed. The debris, falling during heavy rains, damaged several vehicles parked below. The accident caused panic in the area. However, no casualties have been reported.

Due to poor planning and poor performance by Noida Development Authority officials, water drainage has become a major problem. Given that this is just the beginning of the monsoon season, what will happen in the future is a matter of great concern.

When Will The Waterlogging Issue Be Addressed?

People are shocked to see waterlogging even in posh societies and malls. There have been reports of walls collapsing and roads caving in at several locations. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for the next three days. The local administration has begun relief work, but residents said the same situation recurs every monsoon. The Noida Authority is being accused of negligence under the guise of development. People are asking the authority, "How long will this waterlogging continue?"
