A woman from the Northeast's Assam and another from Bihar were allegedly molested, assaulted and racially abused by a group of men in Delhi's Nehru Place area, with police saying four people have been identified in the case and raids are underway to arrest them.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 6.30 AM on May 10 near a tea stall outside the hotel.

The victims have alleged that they were having tea at the stall outside the hotel when two men started catcalling them. Several other men joined them, and an argument turned into an altercation.

According to a victim, her clothes were torn during the altercation. The police said, "One of the complainants alleged that she was molested during the incident and that her clothes were torn. The women also alleged that racist remarks were passed against them by the accused".

Another victim said that they were attacked with bamboo sticks while they were attempting to leave the spot. She told the police that the accused blocked her way and threatened her against disclosing their identity.

The officer added that the victims were rushed to AIIMS for medical examination, and a case has been registered.

"Both women were rushed to AIIMS for medical examination after police reached the scene. A case has been registered at the Kalkaji police station under Sections 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 74 (assault of criminal force to against a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 78 (stalking) and 3(5) (common intentions) of the BNS on May 10 and investigation was taken up immediately," the officer said.

The police scanned the CCTV footage from the nearby areas and identified several passersby and witnesses. Based on questioning from 8 people, the police have identified four people involved in the incident.

The police formed multiple teams and raided locations linked to the accused to apprehend them. The four accused, identified as Md Fahad, Md Savej, Md Arif (33)  and Aman alias Mohd Faheem alias Kala.

Fahad works as a computer operator at a private institute, while Savej is a contract worker and former club bouncer.

Arif works at a mobile store in Noida and Faheem lives in Jamia Nagar.
