The Jammu Division of Northern Railway has decided to extend the operation of Special Reserved Train keeping in mind the increasing passenger traffic. This special train has been extended several times in the past and is becoming increasingly popular among travellers as a better option.
Under the new decision, Train No 04081 will run two additional trips from New Delhi to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra on January 30 and 31, 2026. Previously, this train operated from December 27 to January 26. In the return direction, Train No 04082 will run two additional trips from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to New Delhi on January 31 and February 1, jagran.com reported.
The scheduled operating period was from December 28 to January 27. According to railway officials, the recent snowfall has led to a surge in tourists arriving in Jammu and Kashmir, increasing demand for the train. Previous operations have seen nearly 100 per cent occupancy, proving its utility.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal stated that this special train not only provides convenience to passengers travelling to Jammu and Kashmir, but also provides additional travel options for passengers traveling to major stations along the route, such as Jalandhar Cantt, Ludhiana, and Ambala Cantt. He urged passengers to check train times by dialing 139 or using NTES before embarking.
Srinagar-Katra Rail Section Inspected
Amid heavy snowfall and sub-zero temperatures in the Kashmir Valley, Northern Railway General Manager (GM) Ashok Kumar Verma inspected the Srinagar to Katra rail section and thoroughly reviewed passenger amenities, track safety and staff security arrangements.
During the inspection, the GM visited several major railway stations, including Srinagar, Pampore, Anantnag, and Qazigund. He directed officials to ensure that passengers do not face any inconvenience despite the harsh winter and that all necessary facilities are readily available. Verma also reviewed ongoing maintenance and construction work on tunnels and bridges along the railway route.
He personally inspected critical sections of the track, such as points, switches, and turnouts, to ensure safe and uninterrupted operations even in the extreme cold. During the visit, he interacted with ground staff and track maintainers to listen to their concerns.
He directed the accompanying officials to immediately provide necessary winter equipment and safety gear to all the staff. At the end of the inspection, the GM also reviewed the progress of other ongoing infrastructure projects in the area and asked the officials to ensure strict adherence to the deadlines so that the development work is not affected despite adverse weather and the rail network remains robust.
