Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday reacted to the ongoing controversy over Prajwal Revanna, who has been booked by Karnataka Police in an alleged sexual harassment case on April 28 following complaints by his former housekeeper. Taking a swipe at the Bharatiya Janta Party “for seeking votes for a mass rapist”, Rahul Gandhi said that Revanna raped hundreds of women.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seeking votes for a 'mass rapist'. Prajwal Revanna raped hundreds of women and made their obscene videos. And Narendra Modi, from a packed stage, supports that rapist and says: 'If you vote for this rapist, it will help me',” said the Congress leader. 

BJP and JD-S have formed an alliance for the Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka. Prajwal Revanna is the MP from Hassan and is re-contesting from the seat as an NDA candidate. Congress and AIMIM are among the political parties who have claimed that Revanna has gone to Germany.

Rahul Gandhi further alleged that PM Modi could have stopped Revanna from fleeing the country, but he still allowed the “rapist” to go to Germany.

“Even when Prajwal Revanna raped hundreds of women, PM Modi did not stop him from going to Germany. PM Modi has all the machinery, yet he allowed the mass rapist to go to Germany, This is 'Modi's guarantee'. Whether it's a corrupt leader or a mass rapist, the BJP will protect him,” he said.

A political row has erupted over the alleged viral video clips of Prajwal Revanna, who has been booked by Karnataka Police in the "obscene video" case. He is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-JD (S) candidate for Lok Sabha from Hassan, where thousands of pen drives purportedly containing his sexual assault videos went viral.

A case against Revanna has been registered under sections 354A, 354D, 506, and 509 of the IPC on charges of sexual harassment, intimidation, and outraging the dignity of a woman. As per the complaint, the victim has claimed that Prajwal Revanna and his father HD Revanna had sexually assaulted her.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed by the Karnataka government to investigate the matter.
