The Odisha government announced the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in all state-run universities and affiliated colleges, starting from the current academic year, an official statement said. The decision to implement the policy, which aims to bring significant reforms to the state's education system, was taken by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.

Following the implementation of NEP in Odisha four-year undergraduate programs will replace the traditional three-year courses. Under the new system, students can earn certificates, diplomas, degrees and honours after completing each year of the program.

Additionally, the state government has developed a credit framework in line with University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines. This framework allows students to gain credits through skill development, internships, community service, extra-curricular activities and participation in NCC and NSS.

Further steps include the approval of 112 multi-disciplinary courses, 14 vocational courses, 56 value-added courses, and 84 skill development courses. A detailed syllabus has also been developed for 40 core undergraduate degree programs.
