KIIT Student Suicide: A first-year BTech student from KIIT University was found hanging in his hostel room on Sunday, police confirmed on Monday. The student, identified as Rahul Yadav from Raigarh in Chhattisgarh, was pursuing Computer Science. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sonal Singh Parmar said the body was discovered inside a locked room on the campus.
Police officers from Infocity Police Station opened the room in the presence of officials and recorded the process on video. Rahul was taken to KIMS Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The police have registered a case of unnatural death and begun an investigation to determine what led to the incident.

According to the Commissionerate Police, the room has been sealed until the student’s parents arrive. A scientific officer examined the spot and investigators seized several items, including Rahul’s laptop and mobile phone, for further analysis. Officers are also speaking to hostel residents and university staff to gather more information.
The student’s family has reached Bhubaneswar and the post-mortem examination is under way. The university is expected to release a detailed statement.

This is the third suicide reported from the KIIT campus this year. Earlier, two Nepalese women students died in separate incidents on February 16 and May 1. Following those deaths, the University Grants Commission (UGC) asked KIIT to explain why disciplinary or legal action should not be taken against the institution.
According to an Indian Express report, a fact-finding committee set up by the UGC later reviewed the two cases. In its report submitted in May, the panel stated that “illegal and unlawful activity by the university” contributed to one of the deaths and that actions by the administration “amount to criminal liability”. The committee visited the campus, met students and staff and reviewed documents before reaching its conclusions.
