Odisha Weather: The regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow alerts for several districts in Odisha. According to the department, rain, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds are likely in the state until March 21.
The change in weather is attributed to the effects of Kalbaisakhi, which has brought a drop in daytime temperatures over the past three days, providing relief from the heat. Many areas of the state experienced cloudy skies, accompanied by rain and strong winds. Koraput town experienced heavy rain and hailstorms, while a two-hour-long thunderstorm and rain in the evening disrupted power supply in many areas.
Thunderstorms To Intensify From Friday
According to the weather body, this situation could persist for about a week, and the intensity of thunderstorms is expected to increase from Friday. An orange warning has been issued for Nabarangpur and Kalahandi districts, while a yellow warning has been issued for Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Koraput, and Malkangiri districts. These districts could experience hailstorms and strong winds of up to 40 to 50 kilometres per hour.
Rain, Thunderstorms In Many Odisha Districts In Next 24 Hours
Thunderstorms, heavy rain, and lightning are expected in northern, southern, and central Odisha by March 20. The weather department has stated that Kalbaisakhi conditions could continue until March 21, so people have been advised to remain vigilant.
Regional Centre Director Manoroma Mohanty said that the trough from south-east Rajasthan to north Chhattisgarh and the cyclonic circulation over Madhya Pradesh are active, due to which there is a possibility of light to moderate rain, lightning, thunderstorm and strong winds in Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar along with the districts of south Odisha in the next 24 hours.
