Odisha Weather: Odisha residents are battling intense and scorching heat and are now hoping for some relief. With the effects of Kalbaisakhi, storms began in the state on Monday. The regional weather centre has issued a yellow alert for 18 districts, warning of rain, strong winds and thunderstorms.

According to the Meteorological Department, due to the effect of the active trough line over Odisha, there may be rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in many districts till April 28.

Strong winds of up to 40 to 50 kilometres per hour are expected during this period. Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, and Khurda are at high risk of thunderstorms.

Odisha Temperature Expected To Drop

The temperature reaching above 40 degrees Celsius for the last several days was causing constant trouble to the people, however, due to rain the temperature may drop by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius.

Western Odisha is likely to experience hot weather during the day, but the weather is expected to become pleasant in the evening. The Meteorological Department has advised fishermen not to venture into deep waters, as high waves and rough weather are likely. The administration has appealed to the people to remain alert and stay in safe places during bad weather.

Bengal Weather

Meanwhile, the Alipore Meteorological Department has forecast temperatures to go down with a major relief from scorching heat in West Bengal in the coming days. As per the weather body, Kalbaisakhi storm is expected to hit South Bengal with rains starting during the weekend. At present, several districts are hit by intense heat wave conditions.

Parts of South Bengal will be hit by thunderstorms from Saturday. The weather body has issued a warning for West Midnapore, Murshidabad, Nadia, Birbhum, East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Bankura, Purulia, Jhargram and North 24 Parganas.

Meanwhile, Kalbaisakhi storm is likely to affect Kolkata and other South Bengal districts from Sunday to next Friday. During this time, winds can reach up to 40 to 50 kilometres per hour. The weather body has advised fishermen to not move into the sea in coastal districts till Tuesday.
