Odisha Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has confirmed that there is currently no cyclone threat to Odisha and has not issued any cyclone forecast for the region. This clarification comes in response to misinformation being circulated by some media outlets regarding a possible cyclone.
In an official statement, the IMD labelled such reports as baseless and misleading, urging the public to rely only on verified updates from official sources.
However, the IMD has noted that a low-pressure area is likely to form over the west-central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal by May 27. This system is expected to intensify gradually over the following two days, and authorities are monitoring it closely for further development.
Residents are advised to stay informed through official IMD bulletins and avoid spreading unverified news.
The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has forecast rainfall across various parts of Odisha from May 27 to May 31 due to the influence of a developing low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. Some areas may experience heavy rainfall during this period.
Following this, the impact of Kalbaisakhi is expected to be felt across the state for the next seven days, bringing rain and thundershowers to several regions.
Residents are advised to stay updated with official weather alerts and take necessary precautions.
Amid ongoing rainfall across various parts of Odisha due to a developing low-pressure system, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has once again clarified that there is no cyclone threat in the state at present.
Several regions are experiencing rain accompanied by strong winds and thunder, adding to public speculation about a possible cyclone. In Bhubaneswar, the sky remained overcast throughout the day with intermittent drizzles, further fueling concerns.
To address the confusion, the IMD has emphasized that the current weather is a result of low pressure and not linked to any cyclonic activity. Rainfall, along with gusty winds, is expected to continue in various districts over the coming days.
Residents are advised to stay informed through official weather bulletins and avoid reacting to unverified reports or rumours.
