Odisha Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday stated that several districts of Odisha are likely to witness light to heavy rainfall for the next four to five days. The weather department stated that a low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal is likely to trigger heavy rain in multiple states. The continuous rainfall is likely to provide relief from the scorching heat by reducing the temperature by two to four degrees Celsius. However, the excessive rainfall is also likely to lead to several issues, including waterlogging and power outages in multiple areas. The IMD has advised the residents to follow the guidelines and limit their outings to avoid any inconveniences.
While providing details, the weather department stated that a low-pressure area formed over the northeast Bay of Bengal in the morning hours of Monday under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation. The department further stated that another low-pressure area is likely over east-central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal around September 25, leading to excessive rainfall at least till September 27. Apart from heavy rainfall, several coastal areas are also expected to witness thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph.
The weather department further stated that the residents of the Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rain along with lightning and gusty surface winds. It further stated that while most of the districts are likely to witness moderate rainfall till September 25, the coastal regions are expected to receive heavy rainfall till September 27.
The IMD has advised the fishermen of the state to follow the guidelines and maintain a distance from the water bodies to avoid any inconveniences. It further stated that apart from Odisha, several other states, including Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Assam, are also likely to witness light to heavy rainfall for the next few days.
