Odisha Weather Update: Odisha will experience a dual weather pattern this week. On one hand, several districts will experience thunderstorms, rain, and strong winds, while on the other, heat and humidity will add to people's discomfort.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several districts, advising people to remain vigilant. According to the weather forecast, light to moderate rain and thunderstorm activity will begin today in the northern, coastal, and southern districts of the state.

Several districts, including Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Puri, Ganjam, Koraput, and Malkangiri, may experience thunderstorms. The scope will expand over the next three to five days, and widespread impacts could be felt across Odisha by May 1-2.

Winds Can Blow At Speed Of 50 Km

IMD has warned that strong winds of 30 to 50 kilometres per hour are possible during the storm. Gusts of 40-50 kilometres per hour are expected in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Ganjam, Rayagada, and Koraput.

Meanwhile, winds of 30-40 km per hour are possible in Cuttack, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, and Balasore. People have been advised to remain vigilant due to the risk of lightning and falling trees.

Heat Wave Also Forecast

While the rain will bring relief, the heat wave will continue in western and interior Odisha. Heat wave conditions are likely to persist in Jharsuguda, Balangir, Kalahandi, Boudh, Nayagarh, and Sonepur. Hot nights will worsen the situation in Sambalpur and Sundargarh.

Hot and humid weather will persist in the coastal districts of Puri, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, and Kendrapara. Weather experts say the intense heat during the day and humidity at night can have health consequences, and caution is especially needed for the elderly, children, and those with illnesses.

Advice For People

IMD has advised people to avoid unnecessary outings in the afternoon, stay away from open spaces during lightning and stay in safe places during strong winds.

Farmers and fishermen have also been asked to exercise special caution. This double weather attack in Odisha has raised concerns.
