Odisha Weather Update: With a Deep Depression formed and the Bay of Bengal moving towards Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, the weather conditions in Odisha have drastically changed with incessant rain. The heavy rainfall in the state has triggered unfavourable conditions, leading to one dead and two missing in rain-related incidents, as per the inputs from news agency PTI.
-Heavy rainfall brought life to a standstill in the state, with widespread waterlogging reported in several areas. The downpour intensified as the depression crossed the coast near Gopalpur in Ganjam district on Thursday evening, exacerbating the situation.
Odisha Weather Update: IMD Issued Red Alert For Heavy Rainfall
-The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for heavy rainfall across the state, with a 'red' alert signalling extremely heavy rainfall in seven districts, an 'orange' warning for 16 districts, and a 'yellow' alert for the remaining seven districts.
-Heavy rain has been pounding almost all parts of the state since Wednesday, with coastal and southern regions bearing the brunt of the downpour.
As per the weather forecast bulletin released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi have been placed on a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning, and wind speeds reaching 40-50 40-50kmph gusting to 60kmph.
-Similarly, several districts have been placed under an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and surface wind of 40-50 kmph, gusting at 60kmph.
-The rest of the districts have been placed on yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds.
Odisha Weather Forecast: Weather To Return To Normal From Oct 5
-The weather department has not put any of the districts of Odisha on alert since October 5, as weather conditions are likely to return to normal with light to moderate rainfall expected.
“One person died and two others went missing in landslides at six places in Gajapati due to incessant rain for the past two days. The deceased was buried under the rubble on Thursday after a landslide took place in an area under the R Udaygiri Police Station limits,” SP Jatindra Kumar Panda told PTI over the phone.
