The Malayali people celebrate Onam, a 10-day harvest celebration. It is a moment to rejoice, laugh, and celebrate. Envious of Mahabali's popularity, the Devas (Gods) sought Lord Vishnu's assistance to have him banished to the netherworld. But before going down, Mahabali obtained a boon from Vishnu to visit his subjects every year, which is observed as Onam.
This year, the festival of Onam began on August 20 and will last till August 30.
