The Delhi Police, under "Operation Kavach," arrested 1,224 persons in a single day on suspicion of engaging in crimes such as illegal firearm ownership, theft, and the use of illegal narcotics and alcohol throughout the city.

The 24-hour operation, which took place from November 12 to 13, was carried out by all Delhi police units, including the Crime Branch, Special Cell, and officers from 15 districts.

According to officials, 1,224 persons were arrested by all police units during the operation, which was carried out at 874 locations. Over 700 persons have been taken into custody due to the operation.

What is Operation Kavach?

Operation Kavach is a periodic operation undertaken by Delhi Police to target criminals and drug smugglers in respective districts. The local police collaborate with the Special Cell and Crime Branch to carry out this operation.

On Thursday, 203 cases were lodged under the Delhi Excise Act, 202 people were arrested, and 244 cans/bottles of beer, 29,942 quarters, and 198.75 liters of illicit liquor were recovered as part of Operation Kavach 6.0, according to news agency ANI.

Furthermore, 14 people were detained in 14 arms act cases, with the recovery of six country-made pistols, nine live cartridges, and eight knives, while 1224 people were placed in preventive custody.

In the previous 24 hours, Delhi police launched simultaneous raids in 874 locations across 15 districts of Delhi, according to Additional CP Crime Sanjay Bhatia.

140 narco-offenders have been apprehended in 139 NDPS cases, resulting in the recovery of a significant amount of drugs.
