As many as 13 persons were killed, 57 others injured in Pakistan’s heavy shelling on residential areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, PTI reported citing officials. This came in response to India’s Operation Sindoor, where security forces destroyed over nine terror camps in Pakistan and PoK in precise and calculated strikes.
Pakistan has resorted to heavy artillery and mortar shelling, killing civilians in villages close to the LoC. The Indian Army has been working proactively to evacuate people living close to the border.
Poonch district was the worst affected by the Pakistani shelling, with all the civilian deaths reported from there, as per officials cited by the news agency. They added that 42 people were also injured, and the condition of some was serious. Shelling took place along the entire Line of Control in Poonch, including areas like Balakote, Mendhar, Mankote, Krishna Ghati, Gulpur, Kerni, and even near the Poonch district headquarters. The attacks caused damage to many houses and vehicles.
Officials said the people who lost their lives were Balvinder Kour (33), Mohd Zain Khan (10), his sister Zoya Khan (12), Mohd Akram (40), Amrik Singh (55), Mohd Iqbal (45), Ranjeet Singh (48), Shakeela Bi (40), Amarjeet Singh (47), Maryam Khatoon (7), Vihaan Bhargav (13), and Mohd Rafi (40).
According to officials, ten others, including five children, were injured during cross-border shelling in the Uri sector of Baramulla district. Three more people were hurt in the Rajouri district. Several homes also caught fire as a result of shelling in the Karnah sector of Kupwara district.

India launched Operation Sindoor in retaliation for the killing of 26 people, mostly tourists, at the hands of Pakistan-backed terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam. Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted vehement meetings for several days to chart the roadmap of retaliation. Indian Armed Forces were given a free hand to decide on the timings, mode and targets.
