In the wake of India’s precision military action under Operation Sindoor, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval held a series of high-level telephonic conversations with his counterparts in major global capitals, as reported by PTI. NSA Doval made it clear to all interlocutors that India’s intent behind the strikes was not to escalate tensions, but to deliver a targeted and proportionate response to acts of terror originating from Pakistani soil. In his conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister and Politburo member Wang Yi, Doval underlined that while India did not seek further confrontation, it remained “extremely well prepared to retaliate resolutely and disproportionately should Pakistan choose to escalate.”
This message was consistently conveyed across his engagements with the National Security Advisors and foreign policy officials of the United States, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Japan, United Arab Emirates, Russia, China, and France.
Diplomatic Outreach Follows Precision Strikes
The outreach came after India launched a series of missile strikes on May 7 against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), in response to the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians. The attack had been orchestrated by The Resistance Front, a proxy of Pakistan-based terror outfits.
Doval briefed his counterparts about the “measured, non-escalatory, and restrained” nature of the strikes and the specific targeting of terror hubs. According to an official cited by PTI, India ensured that the action was limited to military objectives and avoided civilian or economic infrastructure.

Operation Sindoor
Operation Sindoor, named after the vermilion worn by married Hindu women, is seen as a symbolic tribute to the women who lost their husbands in the Pahalgam terror attack. The choice of name reflects both the personal and national pain of the tragedy, and the resolve to deliver justice through decisive action.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman lauded the move, stating, “Operation Sindoor is a strong response by the Indian Army, hitting at the terror hubs in Pakistan. India shall never tolerate terrorism. Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, we will ensure every perpetrator of terror is pursued.”
