Lok Sabha:  The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday raked up the issue of 'low representation' of Muslims in the 18th Lok Sabha during the proceedings earlier in the day. Quoting CSDS data, Owaisi said that only 4 per cent of Muslims have come to the House in the recently concluded elections. The AIMIM chief claimed that while the number of OBC MPs is now at par with the upper caste MPs, the Muslim representation remains at 4 per cent despite there being 14 per cent Muslims in the country.

Owaisi further alleged that after June 4 [Lok Sabha elections result day], six Muslims have been lynched and 11 houses of community members have been bulldozed in Madhya Pradesh. The Hyderabad MP also brought up the issue of a shop vandalised by locals in Himachal Pradesh.

In a short address in the House, chaired by Jagdambika Pal as presiding officer, Owaisi said: "For political parties, my [Muslims] existence is merely limited to vote and go sleep in my graves at the end."

"... Is this social justice that only 4% of Muslims win and come (to the Parliament)... In this House, the no. of OBC MPs is equal to the no. of upper caste MPs... And out of 14% Muslims, only 4% win... After June 4, six Muslims have been mob lynched. 11 homes in Madhya Pradesh have been bulldozed. In Himachal Pradesh, a shop of a Muslim was looted...," he added as quoted by ANI.
