The Pakistan government is likely to pay PKR 14 crore in compensation to Masood Azhar, who is a designated "global terrorist" and leader of the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) after 10 of his family members and four associates were killed in India's targeted military strikes under 'Operation Sindoor.' Masood Azhar is responsible for some of the deadliest attacks in India, including the 1999 IC-814 hijacking and the 2019 Pulwama bombing.
According to BBC Urdu, Azhar admitted that the strikes, which were launched in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians, had claimed the lives of those close to him. The strikes targeted nine terror sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced comprehensive support and a compensation of PKR 1 crore per deceased for the legal heirs of those killed in the strikes, said a press release from the Pakistan PMO, as per a report by The Tribune Chandigarh.
India targeted Markaz Taiba (a Lashkar stronghold) in Muridke and the Markaz Subhan Allah (the headquarters of the Jaish) in Bahawalpur. These Markaz not only serve as residences to major commanders of the outfits but also serve as epi-centre for radicalization and various training courses on intelligence, arms handling etc, as per ANI.
As per the report, Masood Azhar could be entitled to PKR 1 crore each for the 14 members killed, leading to a total payout of PKR 14 crore. Pakistan PM’s relief announcement also included an arrangement to rebuild houses destroyed during the operation by India.

India's Ministry of Defence said 'Operation Sindoor' was in direct response to the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22.
In its statement, the Ministry of Defence said, "A little while ago, the Indian Armed Forces launched 'OPERATION SINDOOR', hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed."
"Our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted. India has demonstrated considerable restraint in selection of targets and method of execution," the statement added.
