Days after the arrest of Wasim Akram, a civil engineer from Haryana, on espionage charges, shocking revelations have surfaced. In the latest development, it has been found that the Pakistan High Commission was using its visa desk for recruitment.
Akram, who was arrested on Tuesday from Palwal's Kot village, is a YouTuber. Along with him, a man named Taufiq from Alimev village was also arrested.
Akram was allegedly working as a data supplier for a Pakistan High Commission official named Jaffar alias Muzammil Hussain, according to a report by Hindustan Times, citing sources.
Visa application meeting developed into spy-handler arrangement
Reportedly, Akram met Jaffar when he applied for a visa to visit his relatives in Pakistan's Kasur. Initially, a visa was denied to him, but was eventually granted when he paid a bribe of Rs 20,000.

The investigators said that Akram visited Pakistan in May 2022. However, Jaffar remained in contact with him even after his return from Pakistan.
Around Rs 5 lakh was transferred to his bank account, the details of which were provided by him for a visa facilitation fund, as he was promised a commission.
Akram received more cash payouts through intermediaries. The aforementioned media report stated that Akram delivered Rs 2.3 lakh to Jaffar, including 1.5 lakh in cash. He also provided Jaffar with SIM cards, OTPs, and shared details of the Indian Army.
Malerkotla module
The pattern is similar to what was found earlier in Malerkotla and Nuh arrests. In the wake of Operation Sindoor, two people were arrested over espionage charges from Punjab's Malerkotla.
They were found to be groomed by Danish, a Pak High Commission official. Later, it was found that YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, who was also arrested on espionage charges earlier this year, got her visa for Pakistan visit through Danish.
