Parliament Security Lapse: It was shortly after the Prime Minister, along with other parliamentarians, paid their homage to the victims of the 2001 Parliament Attack, that two young men carrying coloured smoke canisters in their hands charged the chamber of the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, making December 13 yet again an unforgettable day in the history of Indian democracy. In the visuals that appeared on television sets, one man—later identified as Sagar Sharma—was seen jumping from one table to another in a bid to create a ruckus with a canister spewing yellow smoke in his hand.
However, the inside of the house was not the only place that saw the anarchy. Outside the Parliament house, two other demonstrators were seen holding similar smoke cans, voicing slogans such as 'Tanashahi Nahi Chalegi' (down with autocracy), 'Bharat Mata Ki Jay,' and 'Vande Mataram.' The duo was promptly arrested and taken into custody by the Delhi police.
While being taken away, one of the protestors revealed her identity as Neelam Sharma from Jind, Haryana. On being asked about her motive behind the protest, she said that she does not belong to any outfit or organization.
"We do not belong to any organization. We are students...we are unemployed. Our parents work so much. Labourers-farmers, small traders, shopkeepers...but no one is listened to. This is our problem everywhere. They try to suppress the voice. This dictatorship will not work," Neelam said while escorted by a women personnel of Delhi Police.
But who is Neelam Azad?
Neelam, 30, is a resident of Jind in Haryana. Neelam has qualified BA, MA, B.Ed, M.Ed, CTET, M.Phil, and NET, said her brother in an interview with ANI. However, even after being highly qualified, she couldn't get any job. After being unemployed for years, she started preparing for the Haryana state civil services examinations in Hisar, where she was living in a PG.
According to the report, on November 25, Neelam had left the PG, saying that she was going home to Jind where her parents run a sweet shop. Sources say that Neelam's parents had no information about Neelam going to Parliament House. Neelam's mother said that Neelam was at home two days ago. Later, she left there, saying that she was going to Hisar.
