Vijay Shekhar Sharma, the CEO of Paytm landed in controversy for his "Ok Tata Bye Bye" phrase posted on the demise of Tata Group Chairman, Ratan Tata. Following a major backlash, the company also issued an apology saying that they are "truly saddened" by the incident.

"We deeply regret any hurt caused by a recent post about Mr Ratan Tata. His passing is a great loss for the nation and we are truly saddened. The integrity, compassion and kindness Mr Tata exemplified has left a profound mark on every Indian. He will always be cherished in our hearts and his remarkable legacy will continue to guide us. India’s Ratna, India’s legend always," said the official statement.

Sharma was massively criticised on social media with netizens labelling his remark as "inappropriate and disrespectful". The screenshots of Paytm post soon went viral prompting anguish in the social media users. Following the criticism, Sharma deleted the post.

People from all aspects of life poured their condolences on the death of Ratan Tata Prime Minister Narendra Modi too expressed grief at the demise of the iconic industrialist.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday spoke to Noel Tata and expressed condolences on the passing away of his sibling, veteran industrialist Ratan Tata.

His funeral was held in Mumbai with Union Home Minister Amit Shah also attending the last rites of Ratan Tata.

In a series of posts on X, PM Modi said he was "extremely pained" at the demise of Tata who passed away on Wednesday evening and highlighted Tata's leadership and contributions to society.

"Ratan Tata Ji was a visionary business leader, a compassionate soul and an extraordinary human being. He provided stable leadership to one of India's oldest and most prestigious business houses. At the same time, his contribution went far beyond the boardroom. He endeared himself to several people thanks to his humility, kindness and an unwavering commitment to making our society better," he said.

"Extremely pained by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family, friends and admirers in this sad hour. Om Shanti," PM Modi said in the post.

Ratan Tata is succeeded by Noel Tata, who was appointed on October 11 as the new chairman of Tata Group's philanthropic arm, Tata Trusts. Noel's appointment is crucial as Tata Trusts owns 66 per cent of Tata Sons, the holding company of various firms under the Tata brand, which is more than 150 years old.
