Former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has alleged that her car was attacked with stones while she was on her way to meet the family of a Trinamool Congress (TMC) worker in North 24 Parganas who died in West Bengal Police custody.

Banerjee alleged that her vehicle was pelted with stones and that she was subjected to ‘thief’ chants during the visit.

A video uploaded by TMC MP Dola Sen shows visuals from inside the car as people throw mud and stones at the convoy.

Addressing the media, CM Mamata Banerjee said, "Large stones were hurled at my car by anti-social elements,right in front of the police. The attack on the vehicle was so severe that if the windows had been open, my head would have been split open. We could have all been killed. this happened right in front of the police. I have never seen anything like this. What is going on?... the police are providing protection to the BJP."

What BJP Said? 

Reacting to the allegations, BJP State President Samik Bhattacharya denied any connection between the BJP and the incident. He said, "Let me be clear: the BJP has absolutely no connection to the incidents where mud, stones, or slippers were thrown at Mamata Banerjee’s vehicle; the Trinamool should not try to lecture us on this. What is happening here is a conflict involving the Trinamool—a clash between the public and the Trinamool. Regardless of whether it involves a Chief Minister or any other female leader, the BJP does not endorse the throwing of stones at anyone's vehicle; we condemn such incidents. If such things occur, the police are there to take appropriate action. However, the Trinamool ought to reflect on the atrocities that the public has never forgotten..."

On the alleged attack on Banerjee's vehicle, State Minister Agnimitra Paul said, "Whatever she has done for the last 14 years, but I am a team member of this new government and a supporter of the Chief Minister. Neither I, nor our party, nor our government supports acts like assaulting, manhandling, or throwing mud, ink, or footwear.

"This cannot be part of our culture; this is not the BJP's culture. Mamata Banerjee may have committed many wrongs or made many mistakes, but we can never support this kind of behavior—especially against a woman, and an elderly woman. We do not endorse this... If anyone is carrying out such acts while claiming to represent the BJP, they are in the wrong."

Mamata Attack Latest In Series Of Incidents Involving TMC Leaders

The incident comes amid growing political tensions in West Bengal, with the Trinamool Congress (TMC) grappling with an internal leadership crisis and factional tensions. Several party leaders have recently faced public hostility, including alleged attacks, amid heightened political tensions in the state following the party’s electoral setback against the BJP.

A month back, TMC youth leader Soumitra Banerjee was allegedly targeted with eggs, shortly after a similar attack on Abhishek Banerjee. TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh was similarly attacked with eggs outside party chief Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat residence in south Kolkata.

TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, a key figure amid the party’s ongoing crisis, was also allegedly attacked on May 30 in Sonarpur while visiting families affected by alleged post-poll violence.

These developments come at a time when the TMC is facing a broader internal crisis and struggling to maintain its cohesion and political identity, with the latest incident involving the party’s chief, former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
