As many as six members of a family were apprehended on Sunday for allegedly beating and stripping a 37-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh's Pilibhit.The victim said her brothers-in-law molested her while her husband engaged in 'unnatural sex' with her. Her husband tore her clothes and pressed her hands beneath the bed, the Times of India cited the victim as saying.
The victim further said, she could not meet the dowry demand of Rs 5 lakh and a new car which is why her husband and his family assaulted her.
The victim married the accused in April 2014, and was unable to conceive. While her medical reports turned out normal, her husband's report indicated physical issues. Due to this, she was often subjected to molestation by her brother-in-laws. On September 21, the victim's husband assaulted her with a sword and severely injured her.
A case was registered against the victim's husband, his parents and three brothers under the sections 354 (criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 307 (attempt to kill), 377 (unnatural sex), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the India Penal Code and the appropriate sections of the dowry prohibition act, Times of India cited SHO Ashutosh Raghuvanshi as saying.

In another incident, four people were booked on Friday for physically assaulting a 25-year-old pregnant woman. The woman alleged that her husband and in-laws assaulted her over their unfulfilled demand for Rs 10 lakh cash as dowry. The woman married the accused, Mohammad Shahid. in June this year. She said that her father spent Rs 20 lakh on her marriage and provided sufficient dowry, but her husband and in-laws wanted more cash.
She was also fed medicines with an intent to cause miscarriage, and her child died in the womb due to the medications and thrashing, she added.
