Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially began his third consecutive term today at his South Block office in Delhi, following yesterday's grand swearing-in ceremony where he led a 71-member Union Council of Ministers into office. His first official action was signing a file related to the farmers' welfare scheme 'PM Kisan Nidhi', authorising the release of the 17th installment of PM Kisan Nidhi scheme which will benefit 9.3 crore farmers and distribute around Rs 20,000 crores.

After signing the file, PM Modi said “Ours is a Government fully committed to Kisan Kalyan. It is therefore fitting that the first file signed on taking charge is related to farmer welfare. We want to keep working even more for the farmers and the agriculture sector in the times to come.”
The immediate agenda for PM Modi includes convening a Cabinet meeting to discuss key matters. The Cabinet is expected to formally request President Droupadi Murmu to summon a session of Parliament, where the government's vision and priorities will be outlined.
At the ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan yesterday, President Murmu administered the oath of office to PM Modi and his cabinet, including prominent BJP leaders Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, Nirmala Sitharaman, and S Jaishankar.
The Council of Ministers comprises 30 Cabinet Ministers, five Ministers of State with Independent Charge, and 36 Ministers of State. The new faces in the Modi cabinet include three former chief ministers, actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi, JP Nadda, and Chirag Paswan.
PM Modi expressed his commitment to serving all Indians and working with the Council of Ministers to advance the country. The first cabinet meeting is scheduled for this evening at the Prime Minister's residence, with ministerial portfolio allocations expected shortly.
"This team of ministers is a great blend of youth and experience; we will leave no stone unturned in improving people's lives. I look forward to serving 140 crore Indians and working with the Council of Ministers to take India to new heights of progress," PM Modi said in a post on X after the ceremony.
The new cabinet reflects significant representation from states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, with Bihar securing four cabinet berths and Uttar Pradesh receiving nine ministerial positions. Additionally, forty-two ministers are from OBC, SC, and ST communities, but there is no Muslim representation in the cabinet.
