PRIME Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said as the world is going through multiple challenges such as war, economic instability, terrorism, religious extremism and climate change, the ideas of Lord Buddha can offer a solution to these problems. The prime minister said it is the need of the hour that people and nations prioritise global interests along with their interests.
Addressing the inaugural session of the Global Buddhist Summit in Delhi, PM Modi said all modern world problems can be solved by Buddhist teaching. The path of Buddha is the path of the future and sustainability, he added. He further asserted that 'India gave to the world 'Buddha', not 'Yuddha'.
"Be a light unto yourself', preached Lord Buddha. Today, this teaching encapsulates answers to so many questions. 'India gave to the world 'Buddha', not 'Yuddha', I had proudly stated this at the United Nations," PM Modi said.
"We can embrace happiness only if we renunciate realisations of Victory, Defeats, Fights, Wars. Lord Buddha has taught the path to overcome these. Enmity can not vanish with enmity but with Love. Actual happiness lies in peace, in living together with peace," he added.
