As Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation for straight 12th time, a record was set in terms of the duration of the speech. PM Modi addressed the country from the ramparts of the Red Fort for 103 Minutes, breaking his 12-year record and serving the longest Independence Day speech.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, “Wishing everyone a very happy Independence Day. May this day inspire us to keep working even harder to realise the dreams of our freedom fighters and build a Viksit Bharat. Jai Hind!"

After receiving a Guard of Honour and paying floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his Independence Day speech by describing the occasion as a festival of 140 crore resolutions. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Friday, during his 79th Independence Day speech from the historic Red Fort,  also declared that the government will implement "next-generation GST reforms" by Diwali this year. The Prime Minister referred to the action as a "double Diwali gift" intended to reduce the burden of tax on common people and accelerate economic growth

Longest Independence Day Speeches 

The longest Independence Day speech was delivered on August 15, 2025, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi making history, addressing the nation for 103 minutes. PM Modi broke his own previous two records of 98 and 96-minute-long speeches delivered on August 15 2024, and Independence Day 2016, respectively.

Shortest Independence Day Speeches

The shortest Independence Day speech in the history of free India was delivered by Punjit Jawahar Lal Nehru and Indira Gandhi, each lasting only 14 minutes. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Atal Bihari Vajpayee followed with relatively shorter Independence Day addresses.
