Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Tuesday night conveyed her congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on securing NDA’s majority for a third consecutive term in office. She expressed her commitment to enhancing the relationship between Italy and India. PM Modi-led BJP failed short of securing the majority mark, as it secured only 240 seats. However, NDA secured the majority and now prepares to form the government at centre.

Giorgia Meloni in a post on X, stated, "Congratulations to Narendra Modi on the new electoral victory and my warmest wishes for good work. (It is) certain that we will continue to work together to strengthen the friendship that unites Italy and India and consolidate cooperation on the various issues that bind us, for the well-being of our nations and our peoples."

In response, PM Modi thanked Meloni for her well wishes and affirmed his dedication to deepening the strategic partnership between India and Italy. He highlighted the shared values and interests that underpin the bilateral relationship and expressed eagerness to collaborate further for global progress.

“Thank you for your kind wishes PM @GiorgiaMeloni. We remain committed to deepening India-Italy strategic partnership which is underpinned by shared values and interests. Looking forward to working together for global good,” PM Modi replied.

Numerous other world leaders, including those from Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Bhutan, Nepal, and Maldives, also extended their congratulations to Prime Minister Modi following the election results.

Meanwhile, the United States commended India's parliamentary elections as the "largest exercise of democracy in history." However, the US State Department refrained from commenting on the outcomes of the polls, adhering to its policy of not interfering in electoral matters of other countries.

State Department Spokesperson Mathew Miller said, “I’m also not going to comment on winners and losers in elections as is our case around the world. What is important for us and what we have seen over the past six weeks is the largest exercise of democracy in history, as the Indian people came to the polls.”
