Sharif took oath as the 24th Prime Minister of Pakistan on Monday in a coalition arrangement between PML (N) and PPP. Shehbaz was administered oath by President Arif Alvi at the Aiwan-i-Sadr. Several prominent leaders including former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, former president Asif Ali Zardari, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, and the chief ministers of Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan were also present at the event, according to the Dawn.

Sharif's swearing-in coincided with protests around the nation by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), a group that has accused the government of manipulating the national elections that were conducted last month.

Amid fractured mandate and consensus between PML(N) and PPP to form a coalition government in Pakistan, former Pakistani Premier Nawaz Sharif nominated his brother Shehbaz Sharif as PM candidate. Besides, PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz was nominated for the post of Punjab’s chief minister. Maryam made history by becoming Punjab's first female chief minister.
