Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Brazil on Monday to attend the 19th Group of Twenty (G20) Leaders' Summit slated for November 18 and 19. PM Modi arrived in Rio de Janeiro after his visit to Nigeria, where he interacted with the Indian community and held bilateral talks with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This is the second leg of his five-day trip to three nations.
Taking to X, PM Modi said that he was looking forward to having fruitful talks with global leaders. "Landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to take part in the G20 Summit. I look forward to the summit deliberations and fruitful talks with various world leaders," he wrote. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), announcing PM Modi's arrival in Brazil, said in a post on X, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi lands in the vibrant city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the G20 Brazil Summit."

"In Brazil, I will attend the 19th G-20 Summit as a troika member. Last year, India's successful presidency elevated the G-20 to the people's G-20 and mainstreamed the priorities of the Global South into its agenda. This year, Brazil has built upon India's legacy. I look forward to meaningful discussions in keeping with our vision of 'One Earth, One Family, One Future'," PM Modi said in his departure statement.
US President Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping will be among the other leaders attending the G-20 summit. PM Modi will visit Guyana from November 19 to 21 at the invitation of President Mohamed Irfaan Ali in the third and final leg of his trip. He will become the first Prime Minister to visit Guyana in 50 years.

In his trip to Nigeria, PM Modi was felicitated with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), country's national award. Queen Elizabeth II is the only other foreign dignitary to be conferred with the award.
