Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday visited West Bengal as part of his nine-day 'Bharat Darshan' tour. This visit is considered significant as the schedule of the Lok Sabha polls could be announced anytime by the Election Commission (EC). This was PM’s second visit to West Bengal within five days.

PM Modi inaugurated, and laid the foundation stone of a plethora of projects, worth a whopping Rs 15,400 crore, during his visit to West Bengal. Among them is the under-water metro project, which is part of Kolkata Metro's East-West corridor.

West Bengal LoP and BJP MLA Suvendu Adhikari felicitated PM Modi at the event.

Key projects inaugurated by PM Modi in West Bengal:

- PM Modi inaugurated the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section of Kolkata Metro's East-West corridor, which will be India’s first under-water service of the metro

- The PM will flag off other train services, which include the Kavi Subhash-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and the Taratala-Majerhat Metro sections

- PM Modi virtually inaugurated the Pune Metro from Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi stretch; the Kochi Metro Rail Phase I Extension project (Phase IB) from SN Junction Metro station to Tripunithura Metro station; Agra Metro's stretch from Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar; and Duhai-Modinagar (North) section of Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor.

- In the afternoon, PM Modi is likely to address a public meeting at Barasat in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district. The violence-torn Sandeshkhali Village is also situated here.

PM Modi, while addressing two rallies in Hooghly's Arambagh and Nadia's Krishnanagar last week, chided the Mamata-led TMC government over the Sandeshkhali issue. He also asked people to ensure TMC’s defeat in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
