The senior citizens who are aged 70-year-old or above will be able to avail the benefits of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. Those already covered under the scheme will receive an additional top-up of Rs 5 lakh per year exclusively for themselves. Let's take a look at who are eligible to avail of the benefits of the scheme.
PMJAY Scheme Eligibility: Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance For Senior Citizens
- Senior citizens who are aged 70 or above can avail the benefits of the scheme. Under the PMJAY scheme, they will get a health cover of Rs 5 lakh on a family basis.
- Senior citizens from families already covered by the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana scheme receive an additional Rs 5 lakh in health insurance. This extra coverage is solely for their own use and does not need to be shared with other family members.

- However, senior citizens enrolled in other public health insurance programs, such as the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), and Ayushman Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), must choose between their current insurance plan and the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
- All qualified beneficiaries will receive a unique card to access the scheme.

The senior citizens of age 70 years and above belonging to families already covered under AB PM-JAY will get an additional top-up cover upto Rs 5 lakh per year for themselves (which they do not have to share with the other members of the family who are below the age of 70 years)," the official release read.
