Poonch Encounter News: Four personnel of the Indian army laid their lives while three others were injured after terrorists ambushed an Army convoy in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday. The vehicles were carrying jawans from the Bufliaz area of Surankote, where a cordon-and-search operation has been ongoing since yesterday. The army vehicles were targeted in the Savni area. The gunfighting is still underway in the area which comes under the operational zone of 48 Rashtriya Rifiles, officials said.

The vehicles -- a truck and a Gypsy -- came under heavy firing after terrorists laid an ambush in the Savni area on the Rajouri-Thanamandi-Surankote road around 3.30 pm.

According to reports, additional forces have been dispatched to the location of the attack, where ongoing gunfire has been reported. While apprising about the incident, the defence PRO Jammu said that a joint operation was launched yesterday, in which contact has been established today.

"A joint operation was launched in the general area DKG last night, contact was established today evening and an encounter is in progress. Further details being ascertained," ANI reported quoting defence PRO Jammu.

This is the second terrorist attack on the army in less than a month. Poonch's Surankote area, where the ambush took place, has witnessed many attacks targeting the Indian army in the recent past. Earlier in November, four army personnel including two officers were killed during an encounter which broke out early in the Bajimaal area of Dharmsal in Jammu Kashmir's Rajouri district.
