Prajwal Revanna Sex Video Case: A Bengaluru court on Wednesday allowed the Karnataka SIT that is probing allegations of rape and sexual abuse against former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna to take him in its custody till June 18. Earlier, on Monday (June 10), the court had remanded Prajwal, the central figure in the Karnataka obscene video controversy, to 14 days of judicial custody. However, the SIT sought a body warrant against him on Wednesday in connection with a cybercrime case, news agency PTI reported.

The SIT's request was granted by the 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court. Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of JD(S) supremo and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, had fled to Germany soon after his name emerged in the Karnataka sex videos controversy in April this year.
He was arrested by SIT officials at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport immediately upon his arrival from Germany on May 31. Within 24 hours of the arrest, he was produced before the court, which remanded him to police custody till June 6. The SIT custody was later extended till June 10.

On the heels of polling in Karnataka's Hassan on April 26 in the second phase of the recently concluded Lok Sabha election, a controversy involving the then-incumbent JD(S) MP from the seat, Prajwal Revanna, shook the conscience of the nation. Hundreds of obscene videos purportedly featuring the now-suspended JD(S) leader stirred a huge row following phase-2 voting.

Prajwal contested the Hassan seat to retain his Lok Sabha membership. He, however, was defeated by Congress candidate Shreyas Patel. Prajwal contested as the candidate of the BJP-led NDA, given the alliance between the JD(S) and the saffron party.
