A bill to prohibit judges, former election commissioners and other holders of constitutional posts is set to be tabled as a private member's bill in Rajya Sabha in its upcoming session. Other important bills to be presented by lawmakers in individual capacity would cover the deepfake ban, artificial intelligence, and the citizenship law. A total of 23 private member's bills are set to be tabled in the Upper House, PTI reported on Sunday.

A constitutional amendment bill will be presented by Rashtriya Janata Dal MP AD Singh which seeks to bar holders of important constitutional posts such as judges and ex-election commissioners from joining any political parties after their retirement. The bill seeks to amend articles 124, 148, 319 and 324 as well as the insertion of new articles 220A and 309A in the Indian statute book.

AD Singh's bill comes in the backdrop of two High Court judges joining the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party within days of their retirement. Notably, Calcutta High Court judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay resigned from his post on March 5 and within two days joined the BJP and also fought the election on the party's ticket.

Earlier this month, former Madhya Pradesh High Court judge Rohit Arya joined the BJP, just 90 days after his retirement.

Singh has also listed another bill which seeks to include marital rape as a crime in the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

CPI MP Seks Universal Basic Income, Right To Old Age Care

Another MP, Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader V Sivadasan has listed two Bills -- one seeking universal basic income and another enactment of Right to Old Age Care. Trinamool Congress MP Mausam Noor has proposed two bills: one aimed at protecting employees' rights against the impacts of Artificial Intelligence, and another advocating for the criminalization of "deepfake" technology. Deepfake refers to the digital alteration of someone's face or other body features to make them resemble someone else, usually with malicious intent.

In the outgoing Lok Sabha concerns were raised about the misuse of artificial intelligence technologies in creating deepfakes and spreading misinformation through them.
