Ex-Punjab DGP Booked: Haryana Police booked Punjab's former director general of police Mohammad Mustafa and his wife Razia Sultana, a former minister from the state, in connection with the death of their 35-year-old son, Akil Akhter. The police named two more persons in the case. They were booked under Sections 103 (1) and 61, which deal with murder and criminal conspiracy charges. Akil died in Haryana's Panchkula on Thursday. As per the FIR lodged by a man named Shamshuddin, Akhter died under "suspicious circumstances".
The DCP further added that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted under the supervision of an ACP-rank officer.
What Panchkula DCP Said
Panchkula DCP Srishti Gupta said on October 16, Akhter, a resident of Sector 4, MDC, Panchkula, was found dead at his residence, adding no foul play was initially suspected, and the body was handed over to the family for last rites after a post-mortem examination.
Videos surfaced, purportedly made by Akil prior to his death, alleging personal disputes and apprehensions about threats to his life. "On October 17, a complaint was received from Shri Shamshuddin of Malerkotla, Punjab, alleging foul play in the incident," the DCP said. She stated that in view of the complaint and the contents of the social media posts, "an FIR dated October 20 under Section 103(1), 61 BNS has been registered at Police Station MDC, Panchkula."
Sensational Allegation And A U-Turn In Videos
The complaint claimed Akil posted a video on 27 August before his death, in which he accused his father and wife of having an illicit relationship, prompting police to launch a probe. The complaint also mentioned the role of Akil's mother and sister in the case. However, another video emerged on social media, which is independently cannot be independently verified, shows Akil saying he spoke wrong about his family because he was not well. He praised his kin in the second video, making the case more complicated.
