Jagran Correspondent, Tarn Taran: A young man who went to his in-laws' house in Punjab's Tarn Taran to reconcile with his wife was allegedly doused with petrol and set on fire by his brother-in-law. The victim, Lovepreet Singh, was severely injured in the incident, while a neighbour, Randeep Kaur, suffered severe burn injuries while trying to rescue him.
Both victims later succumbed to their injuries during treatment. Following the two deaths, the police upgraded the charges from attempted murder to double murder. The main accused, Sajan, is currently hospitalised, and police have deployed security to monitor him.
Man Had Gone To In-Laws' House To Reconcile With Wife
According to a report by Jagran.com, 24-year-old Lovepreet Singh, resident of Kahlwan village in Amritsar district, was married to Sandeep Kaur, a resident of Sangha village in Tarn Taran district. After their marriage, the couple had been involved in an ongoing domestic dispute. As the difference between them escalated, Sandeep returned to her parents' home.
On June 13, Lovepreet visited his in-laws' house to reconcile and take her back. However, he returned after finding that his wife was not home at the time.
Man Doused With Petrol And Set On Fire
Sandeep Kaur's brother, Sajan, later called Lovepreet back to the house. When Lovepreet arrived outside his in-laws' house and was about to enter, a heated argument broke out between the two men. Sajan allegedly doused Lovepreet with petrol from a container he had brought with him and set him on fire.

Randeep Kaur, who lived nearby, stepped in to calm the situation and to rescue Lovepreet. However, she was caught in flames and suffered severe burns. In a desperate bid to save his life, Lovepreet jumped into a nearby drain, but he was severely injured. He later succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Randeep Kaur also passed away in the hospital on Tuesday morning.
Speaking to Jagran.com, Inspector Navdeep Singh Bhatti, in-charge of the Sadar police station, stated that the accused, Sajan, who also sustained burn injuries during the incident, is currently hospitalised. Police have deployed security to monitor him.
While a case of attempted murder was initially registered against him, the charges have been upgraded to double murder following the deaths of both victims.
