Punjab Crime News: A 39-year-old scientist died in Punjab's Mohali after being assaulted by his neighbour following an altercation over parking that turned violent. The incident occurred on Tuesday night after the deceased, Abhishek Swarnkar, had a verbal spat with his neighbour over bike parking. CCTV footage of the incident showed the victim being pushed to the ground by his neighbour, who then proceeded to thrash him.

The deceased, identified as Abhishek Swarnkar, was working with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) as a project scientist. The CCTV footage showed Abhishek parking his motorbike while some locals, including the accused, Monty, stood nearby. Monty was seen arguing with the victim over the parking.

Soon, an argument broke out between Monty and Swarnkar, following which Monty pushed Swarnkar, causing him to fall onto the road. Monty then charged at Abhishek, who was still on the ground but was quickly pulled away by his family members. Later, the scientist stood up with assistance from bystanders but collapsed again. The accused took him to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

According to the police, Swarnkar was undergoing dialysis due to a kidney ailment and had recently undergone a kidney transplant. Originally from Dhanbad, Jharkhand, he was staying in rented accommodation in Mohali with his parents. Swarnkar had previously worked in Switzerland and had recently returned to India to join IISER as a project researcher.

The victim’s family has demanded strict punishment for the accused. A case under Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, has been registered against the accused. Police said the accused is absconding, and efforts are underway to apprehend him. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage to determine the next course of action in the investigation.
