In a major action against cross-border smuggling, fake currency and terror networks, Amritsar Rural Police has arrested an operative linked to Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency near Gharinda police station.

Providing details about the arrest and seizure, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab, Gaurav Yadav, said that the Amritsar Rural Police also recovered one Glock 9mm pistol, one .30 Calibre pistol, and 3 magazines from the suspect's possession. Additionally, fake Indian currency worth Rs 2.15 lakh was also recovered, the DGP added.

In a post on X, he said, “FIR registered at PS Gharinda, Amritsar and Further investigations ongoing for forward & backward linkages.”

As per the police, the consignment was sent by ISI operatives to create unrest in the region. The police have registered an FIR in the case at Gharinda police station in Amritsar, and further investigation is underway, informed DGP Gaurav Yadav.

The breakthrough comes within a week of foiling a potential terrorist attack by the Counter-Intelligence (CI) unit in Amritsar.

On Tuesday, DGP Yadav said that the attack was foiled with the apprehension of an individual linked to Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency, during which a hand grenade was also recovered.

According to the press release issued by the police, the arrested accused has been identified as Jaiveer Tyagi alias Jawed, a native of the Baroli village in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur. He was currently residing in Ludhiana.

Regarding the operation, DGP Gaurav Yadav informed that the CI Amritsar team received intel that an abroad-based individual identified as Sehlam, working for Pakistan's ISI, was hatching a conspiracy to target government infrastructure through terror attacks in multiple cities in Punjab to disturb the peace and harmony in the state.

As per the information, he was planning the attack with his cousin, Jaiveer Tyagi. After getting intel, police swung into action and arrested Tyagi.
