In a major road accident, six people including a 5-year-old were killed after their car collided with an oil tanker on Sangrur's Sunam Mehlan Road on Wednesday night.

They were returning from Malerkotla after paying obeisance. While returning, they met with an accident near Sunam.

Among the six bodies, three were sent to the Civil Hospital Sunam, and the other three bodies were sent to the Civil Hospital Sangrur.

The deceased were identified as Vijay Kumar (50), Divesh Kumar (33), Deepak Jindal (32), Krishna Kumar, Neeraj Singla and a child. All of them were travelling from Sunam in a Maruti car to pay obeisance at the Malerkota Peer Dargah.

While returning late at night, their Maruti car collided with two oil tankers near Mehlan. All the people travelling in the car died on the spot. The police reached the spot upon receiving information and took out the bodies trapped inside the car.

All of the deceased belonged to different families of Sunam.
