Three people were killed and two injured after six assailants opened fire on a car in Punjab’s Ferozepur district on Tuesday. The incident occurred near Akalgarh Gurudwara Sahib at around 12 noon. An investigation has been launched and efforts are underway to apprehend the assailants, police said.
According to the police, the bike-borne assailants chased and surrounded the car before firing around 50 rounds, according to the police. The attackers then fled the scene, leaving nearby commuters in a state of panic.

The deceased were identified as Jaspreet Kaur (22), her brother Akashdeep Singh (21) and Daldeep Singh (32). Two other passengers, identified as Anmol Singh and Harpreet Singh, were injured and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Ferozepur.

DIG Ferozepur Range, Ajay Maluja, described the case as a triple murder, indicating that the incident may have been the result of a rivalry. He confirmed that one of the deceased, Dilpreet Singh, had a criminal history. He also stated that the police have obtained CCTV footage and identified the six suspects involved in the attack.

"This is a triple murder and we are investigating the case. The deceased are Akashdeep, Dilpreet, and Jasprit Kaur... Dilpreet has past criminal records as well. The case seems to be of mutual rivalry, the rest will be revealed as and when the case details unfold... We have CCTV footage and we have identified the assailants already... The accused are said to be 6 in number..." DIG Ferozepur Range, Ajay Maluja said as quoted by news agency ANI.
The incident took place in a crowded area, heightening the sense of fear. Police investigation is underway and further action would be taken accordingly.
