A man allegedly killed his 17-year-old daughter and dismembered her body in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district reportedly over her romantic relationship. The incident occurred in Lakshmanpur Matehi village under the Motipur police station area, police said on Monday. The father, Naeem Khan, has been arrested following a complaint from the victim's mother and an investigation is underway.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Pavit Mohan Tripathi said that the victim’s father used a sharp weapon to slit his daughter's throat before severing her head, hands and legs. Witnesses claimed that Khan, in a fit of rage, sat beside the dismembered body after the crime.

The victim had previously run away from home twice due to her relationship with a local youth, which had led to the youth's arrest and imprisonment. The accused admitted to the police that he was suspicious of his daughter and feared she might flee again.

Police Circle Officer (CO) Heera Lal Kanaujia said that during interrogation, the accused said he has four daughters and expressed concern that his elder daughter's love affair would have negatively influenced his other children.

During interrogation, the accused revealed that he believed his daughter's actions had brought dishonour to the family, prompting him to commit the heinous act. The police are conducting a post-mortem examination of the body and have promised a thorough investigation and appropriate legal action.
