Bengaluru News: A 24-year-old college student faced an attempted assault after she booked a cab in east Bengaluru. The young woman, an undergraduate from Kammanahalli, was targeted by two men who forced their way into her vehicle. However, locals intervened, allowing her to escape.
According to a Times Of India report, the incident occurred between 2 AM and 3 AM. The victim, originally from a northeastern state, had arranged for a cab to bring a friend from Whitefield to her home. After the cab arrived, she entered the vehicle only for two strangers to attempt to join her in the back seat.
The startled student immediately protested and the driver also confronted the intruders. Realising the danger, she exited the car and began to run back towards her house. However, one of the assailants pursued her, grabbing her by the neck. When she struggled to free herself, he struck her and pushed her to the ground, attempting to strip her.
During this ordeal, the attacker sexually harassed her while the driver was engaged in a struggle with the second intruder. Her desperate cries attracted the attention of nearby residents, who rushed to her aid, prompting the attackers to flee the scene.

Afterwards, the student contacted emergency services via helpline 112 and a Hoysala patrol vehicle quickly arrived to assist her. Despite having an exam scheduled for that morning, she filed a formal complaint with the police after completing her test.
Bengaluru police have since opened an investigation, registering a case under relevant sections for assault and sexual harassment. The victim described her attackers as being in their late 20s to early 30s. A police officer noted the lack of CCTV cameras in the immediate area but mentioned that they are reviewing footage from nearby locations to gather more information.
