Gurugram News: Radhika Yadav, a 25-year-old national-level tennis player who was shot dead by her father in Gurugram last week, had been planning to leave home for a few months to live independently. New WhatsApp chats have revealed that she felt restricted at home and wanted to travel abroad to “enjoy life.”

Radhika was shot dead last Thursday inside her residence in Sushant Lok, Sector 57, allegedly by her father, Deepak Yadav. The police have arrested the accused, who reportedly confessed to the crime, stating he was under stress over social comments about his daughter's lifestyle and income.

As per alleged WhatsApp chats reviewed by NDTV between Radhika Yadav and her coach Ajay Yadav, the messages offer a glimpse into her mindset ahead of the incident. In one of them, Radhika expressed her desire to travel in October, November, and December, saying, 'I want to get out of here for some time.'

She mentioned she didn’t want to go to China because of food preferences but was open to visiting Dubai or Australia. “China toh dekho khana peena will be an issue. Dubai, Australia wagerah theek hai. Australia family hai. Dubai mein aap ho,” she wrote.

Radhika made it clear that she wanted to experience living independently. “Ghar wale toh theek hai. Lekin thode time rehna hai independently. Wanna enjoy life idhar kaafi restrictions hai,” she texted. She also said she hoped to pursue short courses during that period.

In another chat, Radhika mentioned that she had tried discussing her plans with her father, but he rejected the idea, saying there was no point in spending money. “But phir maine papa se baat ki toh mana kar rahe they sab sunke. Ki koi point nahi hai kitne hee bacchenge paise,” she messaged.

Meanwhile, an NDTV report cited another coach, Ankit Patel, who trained Radhika for years, as saying that he never sensed any trouble between the two. 'He was always supportive of her tennis career and accompanied her for matches. I never saw anything unusual. They appeared to share a close bond,' he said.

Police had earlier said that the father-daughter relationship had become strained over Radhika’s growing independence. Deepak, police said, was often mocked by people in their native village of Wazirabad for depending on his daughter's earnings, although he reportedly had sufficient rental income and was not financially dependent on her.

The pressure and taunts may have built up over time, leading Deepak to commit the act. Police say he fired at Radhika at close range with his licensed revolver around 10:30 AM.

Following his arrest, Deepak was presented in court and has now been sent to judicial custody. Investigations are ongoing.
