Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Saturday stated that after getting a nod on the Waqf Bill from both houses of the parliament, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) will target other communities. While sharing a news article on the social media platform X, the Congress leader stated that the RSS is now set to target the Christians, adding that it is everyone's collective responsibility to defend the principles of the constitution.
"I had said that the Waqf Bill attacks Muslims now but sets a precedent to target other communities in the future. It didn’t take long for the RSS to turn its attention to Christians. The Constitution is the only shield that protects our people from such attacks—and it is our collective duty to defend it," Gandhi stated in his post on X.

Earlier on April 3, an article in RSS mouthpiece 'Organiser' claimed that the Catholic Church of India is the largest landholder in the country, adding that it holds more land than even the Waqf board. The remarks were made in the article 'Who has more land in India? The Catholic Church vs Waqf Board Debate'.
"For many years, there has been a common belief that the Waqf Board is the second largest landowner in India after the government, however, this claim does not align with the actual data on land ownership in the country. The Catholic Church of India holds the distinction of being the largest non-governmental landowner, possessing vast tracts of land spread across the country," the article claimed.

The Waqf Bill was passed by both houses of parliament after heated debate between the ruling party and opposition MPs. While the ruling party MPs stated that the bill will empower the marginalised section of society, the opposition leaders stated that this is an attempt to snatch rights from the minorities.
