State Bureau, Chhattisgarh: In a major update for the residents, the construction of the much-awaited Raipur-Visakhapatnam Expressway is likely to be completed by March 2027. The 464-kilometer-long expressway will directly connect the capital city of Chhattisgarh to the Vishakhapatnam port. The project is expected to boost the connectivity by cutting the travel time significantly and reducing the traffic congestion. Apart from this, the expressway is also likely to improve the financial activities in the region.
Tribal Districts To Get Benefit
The expressway is expected to improve the access to the port of Visakhapatnam for steel, power, and cement industries, potentially reducing export costs by 20 to 30 percent. The project passes through several tribal-dominated districts of Chhattisgarh, including Dhamtari, Kanker, and Kondagaon. The expressway will improve the connectivity between these districts and the tribal districts, leading to new opportunities for employment in transportation, service sectors, and small industries.
As per the sources, the construction of the expressway was initially scheduled to be completed by the end of 2026. However, the deadline was extended by a few months due to delays in the land acquisition process and geographical challenges. Apart from this, the construction also got delayed during the monsoon as continuous rain caused waterlogging in the lower regions.
