Raja Raghuvanshi Murder Case: The family of Raja Raghuvanshi, a businessman from Indore who was murdered while honeymooning, visited the spot in Meghalaya's Sohra where he was killed. The family members of the deceased conducted a puja in Sohra. Raja's elder brother Vipin Raghuvanshi said they have come there to perform the rituals for the peace of the departed soul.
Why Has Family Conducted Ritual At The Crime Scene?
Raja's family members travelled to the Northeastern state to offer prayers and seek spiritual closure following the gruesome murder that shocked the nation. The rituals were performed at the secluded parking lot near Weisawdong Falls where Raja was killed by his wife's alleged lover and his associates.
Emotional Vipin said his family members wanted to come to the place where our Raja breathed his last. No family should have to do this, but this was important for us, he added.
What Was The Case?
Raja and his wife hit headlines after they had gone missing from the tourist site on May 23. They went there on their honeymoon, just days after their marriage in Indore. Initially, the case was blind as police failed to trace the couple. Raja's family accused Meghalaya police of negligence. The case drew traction after the Union Home Ministry and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Kongkal Sangma intervened for a speedy search operation. However, on the tenth day of their missing, the case took a shocking turn after police recovered his decomposed body from a 30-foot-deep gorge, bearing multiple wounds inflicted by machetes, but Sonam was still missing.
According to the police, Raja was allegedly murdered by three men from Indore at the behest of his wife. Investigations revealed that Sonam was in a relationship with one Raj Kushwaha and had plotted the murder for months.
The killers lured Raja to the remote location on the pretext of sightseeing and then hacked him to death using two machetes, one of which was later recovered from the forest. Sonam fled the scene and was later surrendered to the police in UP. All five accused, including Sonam and Raj, are at present in judicial custody. "We demand swift justice. Those who conspired and killed our Raja must not walk free," said his brother.
