A young man was abducted by a gang of men in Rajasthan's Jhunjhunu, police said on Tuesday. According to police, the victim was tied with ropes and beaten to death with sticks following the abduction. Videos of the alleged assault, shot by the accused, went viral online.

The incident took place on Thursday in the vicinity of the Surajgarh Police Station, according to Jhunjhunu Superintendent of Police Rajarshi Verma. The deceased was identified as 27-year-old Rameshwar Valmiki. The video shows Valmiki being mercilessly assaulted with wooden sticks while his hands and legs are tied with a rope.

“Deependra alias Chintu, Praveen Kumar alias PK, Subhash alias Chintu, Satish alias Sukh, Praveen alias Baba have already been arrested in the case,” Verma said.

Deependra was a history-sheeter at the Surajgarh Police Station, according to the SP.

According to a senior official, the assailants abducted Valmiki, a 'gaushala (cowshed)' worker, from his home, took him to an unknown location, tied him up with ropes, and beat him to death with sticks.

According to authorities, the victim's elder brother Kaluram filed a complaint in the issue. Meanwhile, further investigations are underway.

According to local media reports, the accused are active in the illegal liquor trade in the region and believe Valmiki is collaborating with other gangs to undermine their control over the illegal enterprise.
