Rajasthan School Tragedy: In the latest development in the tragic school roof collapse in Rajasthan's Jhalawar that claimed the lives of seven students, a class VIII student named Tine has alleged that she told the teacher about the leakage of water, along with pebbles and gravel, to which the teacher scolded her.

She said that at 7:40 in the morning, during the rain, water started falling from the roof along with pebbles and gravel. She told teacher Javed, who was standing outside, but he scolded her and silenced her. Soon, the roof collapsed and 35 children were buried under it. Some part of the other room also collapsed. According to a report by Jagran.com, two teachers were present in the school were talking outside and three teachers arrived some time after the accident.

There are seven rooms in the school up to class VIII, out of which the classes are conducted in only four rooms. There are a total of 73 students in the school, out of which 71 were present on Friday.

The rain that had been pouring for several days continued on Friday as well. Due to this, 35 students were seated in class VII and 36 in class II. The roof of the class VII room collapsed and all student were trapped under the debris.

The villagers removed the debris and took the children out and rushed them to the hospital. Among the children killed in the accident were two siblings. Chhotu Lal's seven-year-old son Kanha and 13-year-old daughter Meena died.

After the accident, the villagers blocked the Jhalawar-Manoharthana road by burning tyres in protest. The villagers sitting on the protest have demanded compensation of one crore rupees and government jobs for the relatives of the deceased.

Five children died on the spot while two died in the hospital. As many as 27 students were injured, out of which 9 were in critical condition.

Those killed were identified as Payal (12), Harish (8), Priyanka (12), Kundan (12), Kartik, as well as a brother and sister -- Meena (12) and her brother Kanha (6).

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has ordered an inquiry into the accident. The District Education Officer was removed from his post, and five teachers, including the Headmistress, were suspended. Five employees of the Education Department were suspended late at night. President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed grief over the accident.

District Collector Ajay Singh Rathore said that the District Education Officer was instructed to declare holidays during the rainy season in those buildings which are dilapidated but he did not do so. A month ago, he had asked for departmental action to repair all the dilapidated buildings but the school management never informed about the dilapidated buildings.

Meanwhile, the Director of Education Department Sitaram Jat slammed the District Collector. He said that thye DC should have taken action in this matter earlier. He should have got the building repaired or arranged for classes in another building. The headmaster should also have paid attention to security.
