Rajasthan: A woman has been arrested in Rajasthan’s Sikar for posing as a police sub-inspector at the Rajasthan Police Academy for nearly two years. The accused, identified as Mona Bugalia, faked her identity as ‘Mooli Devi’, pretended to be a police sub-inspector, attended training sessions in official uniforms, and even clicked photographs with senior police officers. Though the woman was on the run since 2023 after a complaint was filed against her, the police arrested her earlier this week.
How Mona Bugalia Faked Her Identity As Cop For 2 Years
According to the police, Mona Bugalia hails from Nimba Ke Bas village in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district, and her father works as a truck driver. The probe revealed that she never cleared the Rajasthan sub-inspector recruitment test, and after failing the recruitment exam in 2021, she created fake IDs under the name ‘Mooli Devi’ and circulated messages on social media claiming that she had been selected as a sub-inspector.
Bugalia even entered the police training institute in Rajasthan and presented herself under the guise of a candidate from an earlier batch, who enrolled through sports quota. She also joined a WhatsApp group meant exclusively for sub-inspector recruits.
Bugalia regularly participated in outdoor drills, posed in photographs with senior police officers and posted motivational content on social media as a sub-inspector. She also delivered career awareness speeches in her official uniform on a public stage.
How Mooli Devi Was Caught?
Her deception came to light when a certain trainee sub-inspector raised doubts about her identity as ‘Mooli Devi’. Senior officials conducted an inquiry, during which she confessed to assuming a fake identity and said that she had not only wanted to impress her family, which includes four sisters but also sought to exploit the powers associated with the police.
During the investigation, police recovered Rs 7 lakh in cash, three official uniforms and examination papers from the Rajasthan Police Academy from Bugalia’s rented room. The police also recovered forged documents from the room.
