A 50-year-old woman was found murdered in a field in Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur district on Sunday morning. The victim Urmila Meena’s throat was slit and both her feet were severed. The dismembered limbs were later recovered from a nearby pond. Police suspect the motive behind the gruesome killing was to loot her heavy silver anklets, which weighed around two kilograms and were missing from the scene.
Urmila had gone to her field early in the morning to cut wood but failed to return home by 11 am. Her worried family began searching for her and eventually discovered her mutilated body in the field. They immediately alerted Bamanwas police station.
The horrific nature of the crime triggered outrage among villagers. Accusing the killers of targeting Urmila for her silver anklets, the residents placed her body on the road and blocked it, demanding the arrest of the culprits within 24 hours. Despite repeated appeals from police, including senior officials like the Deputy Superintendent of Police, the villagers refused to budge.
The police have asked for at least three days to carry out a thorough investigation. However, the villagers insist they will not lift the road blockade until arrests are made. The ongoing protest has delayed Urmila’s post-mortem, which is yet to be conducted.
Law enforcement officials are actively investigating the case and searching for suspects, but no arrests have been made so far. The village remains tense as the demand for justice intensifies.
